°Protecting Our Way of Strife

July 7, 2005

No, that is not a picture of London burning - but of Baghdad.

It was not until Blair announced that a terrorist act had occured, an act of barbarism, that BBC coverage acquired a soundtrack. If security and media around the G8 consisted of building enclosures of various sorts (good versus bad protesters, barricades and zones), the terrorist act - which also includes the definition of this or that violence as terrorism - is principally about mobilisation, as well as enclosure. An affective mobilisation which compels a (re-)connection to a normativity and identity - a defense of ‘a way of life’ which is also, always, a defense of biowar. This is the game and the aim, whether for Al Qaida or Blair. Ontology armed.
