“Desert Crossroads”, by o.r.g.a.n.i.c, is up on Metamute. Hydrarchist has an excerpt from Kapucsinki’s “Shah of Shahs”, on monument destruction in Tehran. And, for those who prefer to read German, “Prekär-Wir?” (pdf).

Some additions on the events in France: Amie over at Long Sunday on le soleil pourr. And the terrifyingly prolific Colonel Chabert, on the joie de vivre.

°Pas de Justice, Pas de Paix

“No justice, No Peace”. A communique from Mouvement de l’Immigration et des Banlieues (MIB), which you can find a translation of in the comments below, kindly done by Chris from Qlipoth.

Thierry Bardini writes, in “France is Burning” [CTheory]:

How does it feel to see the country of your birth burning on television? Today it makes me feel like a migrant worker, watching the kids of other migrant workers rioting in the streets of cities you’ve probably have never heard of — but that they have been cleaning for two generations. […]

°Riot memes

The poster is of course from May ‘68 in France, events since iconised and relegated to the archive. The archive, at present, moves at a rapid pace (see the Wikipedia entry for perhaps the most sustained documentary effort so far). But the more pertinent question is whether comparisons might be drawn, or not, with the events of May 1968. All up, I’d say comparisons are in order, though it’s worth noting the significant differences.

°Baise la police

Whatever the origins of recent rioting in France, there seems to be no let up as yet and, just as with the LA riots of years ago, these riots have quickly surpassed their codification as ‘race riots’ as they extend outwards and continue.

A handy map of the spread, from the Daily Telegraph. And there are reports of more than twenty similar ‘incidents’ in Germany in more recent days.

Poor riots is surely a much more accurate description, because no matter the extent to which poverty is racialised, descriptors such as ‘race riot’ generally serve to reinscribe the sense in which the classifications of ‘race’ function to justify the distributions of impoverishment, deaths and worse, as if these are inherent attributes of ‘race’ as such.
