Cross-trainers, I guess.
Also, in case I haven’t already linked to it: Migreurop’s map of camps in Europe. And, a recent post to the noborder list (which discussed the targeting of companies involved in administering and/or servicing the system of camps), as well as a not-so recent posting over at Icite (via Hysterical Blackness) on the involvement of a Halliburton subsidiary with immigrant detention, produced one of those flashback moments.
Now, none of those postings was in any way suggestive of the same kind of politics I’m about to note, but (nevertheless) I did find myself recalling the pronouncements of some socialist wingnut to the media during Woomera2002 about how ‘we’ all wanted to return the management and running of the camps to state ownership. (Camps in AU, of course, having been subcontracted to private companies for over a decade now.) Controlling the means of production - in this case, the means of producing the exception - I suppose.
