°Landlordism
Yesterday morning, the Australian Minister for Indigenous Affairs announced that since the Tangentyere Council had not agreed to grant the government a 40-year lease over the lands around Alice Springs, those lands would be “compulsorily acquired.”
One of the reasons the Minister gave for taking such drastic action was hearing of cockroach infestation.
I, for one, would like to complain to the Minister about Sydney’s notorious cockroach plague, and call on her (or whichever Minister might be relevant) to compulsorily acquire this city. Especially those nice parts along the foreshore.
Now, I know there might be legal obstacles to this, since it requires the presence of indigenous people to trigger the provisions of the Intervention legislation under which land seizures are possible. But perhaps I could make a case that the preponderance of blackface in Sydney* indicates something of a desire on the part of its residents to be included in the terms of such laws.

*If I could find the cord, I’d upload the phonepic I took on King St, last Saturday night. Or, just point to the ongoing … “Aussies love to play around,” this is true - they like to “play around” with racism. This is what confirms them as “Aussies.”
